Welcome to the New Website

Welcome to the new Isle of Man Bowls Website.

The relaunch is a major overhaul of the original site with a fresh new look and some new brand new features.

  • A new system has been developed from the ground up to store the bowls results which will allow a centralised area for all bowls results now and in the future
  • All league and cup games played since 2012 have been re-imported to include all individual games played.
  • From the League and Merit tables you can now click your team or a player and see their results for the season and also their historical results
  • As before on the night the match score will be available on the website
  • 1-2 days later the individual game results will be imported once results are received and verified
  • As these games are imported the merits and player history pages are immediately updated

As well as these new features further enhancements will be released in the near future

John & Fiona Kennish win Kenny Parker Rosebowl

A total of 30 pairs came together at South Ramsey’s green on Sunday to battle for the Kenny Parker Any Combination Doubles Rosebowl.

The competition was run by North Ramsey but had been switched from the Mooragh Park to allow the green there more time to recover from the extensive work that has been undertaken over the winter.
While a persistent mist lingered all day it did at least remain dry allowing for some competitive bowling on a green that was running well. In the end the final was an all South Ramsey family affair with John and Fiona Kennish triumphing 21 – 15 over Andy Kennish and Alan Moore in a closely fought final.

Losing out in the semis were the North Ramsey pairng ofSteve Parker and Steve Walmsley along with LynBolton from South Ramsey and Trevor Quayle from Port St Mary. Fallers at the quarter final stage were T & P Collins, A & P Taylor, F Watson and J Surridge and S Kelly and M Kneen.

At the end of a good day’s bowling Kenny’s son Steve presented the trophy to the winners, thanking all those who had helped to organise the day and giving particular thanks to South Ramsey for making their green available for the running of the competition and for providing the catering.

RH Green Fours

18 Pairs entered the last Open of the 2014 Season – The R.H. Green Fours (Men’s Doubles) which was held at Finch Hill Green on Sunday 28th September, on a pleasant sunny afternoon.

Some well known names did not progress beyond the first two rounds, which made the competition all the more interesting!

The semi – finals consisted of four pairs who had been on sparkling form all afternoon, with Mark Moorley and Jeff Kinley pitted against Dave ( Barney) Kelly and Bob Clark. Which resulted in a 21 – 15 win for Kelly and Clark.

The other semi was an all home green affair – Steve Bridson and Paul Doughterty versus Mervyn Sayle and Keith Fearnley. The result was 21 – 13 in favour of Bridson and Doughterty.
The final was between Dave ( Barney ) Kelly and Bob Clark versus Steve Bridson and Paul Doughterty.

Steve and Paul did not continue their earlier form and had no answer to the extremely accurate long marks set by Barney and Bob who were most certainly worthy winners.

The Prizes and Cup were presented by long time Finch Hill Official Eric Cain.

Ladies Senior County Merit

A ladies team of nine senior Isle of Man Crown Green bowlers recently represented the island in the British Crown Green Senior County Merit which was held at Vale Park, Todmorden, West Yorks. The weather was kind although there was a short shower mid afternoon, however it didn’t spoil the day.

The competition format was four groups of four counties who played each other on a round robin basis and the winners from each group then played in the semi final and subsequent winners went on to the final.

The Isle of Man team were drawn in a tough group and also had to combat a very fast tricky green which proved a problem in the first game against a strong Wirral team but then an improvement with the second against Yorkshire (previous winners and this year’s finalists) and a great result in the third beating last years winners (Gtr Manchester) The eventual winners were North Shropshire who were first time winners.

The IOM team bonded together under the leadership of captain Val MacFarlane who kept the team’s spirit up all day.

Thanks go to our referee Mary Simmonds for her hard work all day and for keeping us and some of the other referees in order!! Thanks also to those who came along on the trip to support – it was much appreciated by all the team.
