Rayner Finals Line-ups Decided
All four semi-finals of the Plumbmaster Rayner Shield & Rayner Plate competitions took place on Thursday evening.
In the Rayner Shield Marown C hosted North Ramsey A at Crosby, with the visitors’ favourites based on league position of the teams and the Mooragh men comfortably beating the Crosby men 9-1 recently albeit with home advantage. This time round Marown made home advantage count as they secured a 4-4 draw on games with the match then being decided on chalks as the home team reached their first ever Rayner Shield final as they won by 10 chalks (146-136).
Two single figure wins for the home team were ultimately the difference as captain Stevie Rundle led the way with a 21-9 win over Allan Callow, whilst Sam Clague won 21-7 against Steven Waters. Also winning for the home team were the Kelly brothers as Tom beat Gary Merrill 21-16, whilst younger sibling Kevin won 21-20 against Jimmy Moffatt. For the visitors Paul Allison beat Jamie Joughin 21-8, Steve Walmsley won 21-15 against Peter Kelly. Rob Monk had to work hard for his 21-19 victory over Dan Smith, whilst John Cannan edged his game with Steve Rough 21-20.
In the other semi-final fixture Onchan A hosted South Ramsey A, with the visitors booking their place in the final with a 2-6 (116-160) win on the night. Two 21-3 wins for the Ramsey men from John Kennish and David Bradford ultimately meant they had to win two more games, unless they suffered heavy defeats themselves, however the visitors went on to win four more games as Bob Clark beat Reg Temporaza 21-18, a result matched by Peter Collister against Will Penhallurick, Jordan Cain won 21-17 against Matthew Quirk, whilst South Ramsey captain Glynn Hargraves beat Phil Kerruish 21-15. For Onchan Kevin Quirk had to dig deep for his 21-19 win over Stefan Kelly, whilst Onchan captain Peter Slinger won 21-15 against Alan Moore.
The Plumbmaster Rayner Shield final will be held on Friday 4th August between Marown C and South Ramsey A with the venue to be confirmed.
The Rayner Plate semi-final between Peel B (+20) and Marown B (+15) in the Sunset City was finely balanced with the home team holding just a five chalk start on the night. The match result on games ended 4-4, however the result in the Plate is decided purely on chalks as the home team won by just six chalks (160-154).
For the home team Dewi Bartlett beat Walter McCarthy 21-14, Dougie Allan secured a fine 21-9 victory over Harry Barton, whilst Peel captain Paul Quirk won 21-15 against Karl Parker. For the visitors Brian Kelly beat Rob Middleton 21-17, Matthew Keggen won 21-16 against Dave Smith, Darren Kerruish got the better of Geoff Rice 21-12, whilst Juan Killip claimed a comfortable 21-11 win over Andy Mackie.
The match came down to the final game on the green between Mick Kavanagh and John Kelly with the score at 19-16 to the Peel man, Kavanagh became the unlikely hero on the night as he secured the win for Peel without the handicap coming into play. In very unusual circumstances Kavanagh was counting for one with all three bowls played close to the jack when his teammates informed him to carry his second bowl up as it would secure the win, however Kavanagh wanted to score another for game. After a bit of discussion Kavanagh did indeed carry his second bowl up to secure their passage to the final before going on to claim a 21-17 victory against Kelly to seal the result.
First Division side South Ramsey B (+25) were drawn at home to second division team Ballaugh A (+45), despite the home team winning 5-3 on games they weren’t able to claw back the 20 chalk deficit that they had to make up as they lost by 13 chalks (166-179).
For the home team Tony Dugdale beat Nigel Tebay 21-12, Tony Hart and Ben Dugdale won 21-14 against Phil Quayle and Mike Spooner respectively, Eddie Carlyle beat Gordie Moore 21-11, whilst Christian Caley edged his game with Tony Quine 21-20. For the visitors all three wins were comfortable which helped their cause securing the chalks and their place in the final as John Maddrell proved he is still a tough opponent with his 21-10 win over Toby Hart, whilst Patrick Grant and John Keenan won their games 21-13 against Austin Hart and Bryan Corner respectively.
The Plumbmaster Rayner Plate final will be held on Friday 11th August between Peel B and Ballaugh A with the venue to be confirmed.
League Bowls
There was some disruption to matches scheduled to be played in Canada Life International League on Monday evening due to heavy rain this resulted in several matches being postponed.
In Division One, Marown A went ahead with their fixture at home to South Ramsey B as they claimed a routine 9-1 victory. Five games were won to single figures by Paul Dunn, Neil Withers, Colin Kelly, John Gelling with Peter Jones the biggest winner as he won 21-1 against Tony Hart. The lone winner for the Ramsey men was Toby Hart who won 21-19 against Phil Kelly, whilst Ben Dugdale came next closest to picking up a point as he lost 18-21 to Glenn Boland.
A very heavy Castletown green resulted in their A team winning 6-4 against Marown B, with Nathan Cooil and Jordan Drewett losing out 20-21 to Walter McCarthy and Harry Barton respectively, Chris Lever was beaten 19-21 by John Kelly as the home team missed out on picking up a further three points. For the home team Ian Watson edged home 21-20 against Matthew Keggen, with the other three wins being comfortable. The win lifts Castletown off the bottom of the league and into safety in 10th place.
Peel B won’t have been too unhappy with their 4-6 home defeat as they took four wins on the night. Three close wins were claimed by the Peel men as Michael Kavanagh beat Jamie Clague 21-17, Dougie Allan beat Mike Thomas 21-18, with teammate Dewi Bartlett winning to the same score against Neil Dunwell. For Onchan Reg Temporaza won comfortably 21-8 against Andy Mackie, whilst Kevin Quirk beat Geoff Rice 21-17, whilst Matthew Quirk beat Rob Middleton to the same score.
Marown C suffered a 3-7 home defeat to Peel A, with Stevie Kelly making his return to the fold with a 21-11 win over Jamie Joughin, whilst another man to return to the fold Peter Greenlees won 21-17 against Steve Rough. For the Crosby men Sam Clague beat Pip Pemberton 21-11, Tom Kelly won 21-17 against former teammate George Gadsby, whilst Kevin Kelly held off David Proctor 21-18.
Douglas A rearranged their home fixture with North Ramsey A to Friday, with the weather not much better than Monday evening when the fixture was originally due to be played. The home team did however manage to take a 7-3 win, edging the aggregate by just four chalks (143-139). For the Villa men captain Mervin Sayle held off Steven Waters 21-18, Ian Moore beat Gary Merrill 21-16, whilst Stuart Garrett stepped up to the A Team to defeat Allan Callow 21-19. For the visitors Rob Monk beat Andy Cannell 21-15, Steve Walmsley had a comfortable 21-14 win over Keith Rise, whilst Paul Allison was the best winner on the night as be won 21-9 against Jimmy Sansom.
South Ramsey A rearranged their home fixture with Port St Mary A to Wednesday 19th July.
In Division Two Finch Hill A hit 100 points for the season as they came away from South Ramsey C with a 3-7 win. Winning for the home team were David Corkill, Paul Routledge and Richard Davies. For the visitors Stephen Oates was only winner to single figures as he beat Tony Marler 21-9, whilst the other four wins were comfortable.
Ballaugh A slipped to a 3-7 away defeat to Onchan B, as captain Philip Quayle was beaten 20-21 by Roy Corlett, Mike Spooner won 21-10 against Mark Kelly, John Keenan beat Paul Callister 21-16, whilst Nigel Tebay won 21-18 against Neil Richmond. The other four wins were comfortable for the home team with Colin Spence beating Steve Grant 21-10 and Steve Parker winning 21-13 against Richard Hainge.
North Ramsey B won 7-3 at home to Douglas B despite suffering two heavy defeats with Paddy Murphy beating Adam Greenwood 21-8, David Pease won 21-9 against Joe Kneale. Nick Firth picked up the third win for the Villa men as he edged home 21-20 against Tony Smart, with the home team claiming a win to the same score as John Corteen beat William Cowley. Lee Christian was the only winner to single figures for the Mooragh men as he beat Geoff Mayles 21-8.
Peel C had a good week as they beat Onchan C 9-1 at home, with Neil Taylor preventing the whitewash with his 21-14 win over David Allwood. Four single figures wins for Peel kept the visitors down to just 86 chalks.
Port Erin A were due to be at home to Nobles A, however the fixture did not go ahead, with a new date to be agreed.
In Division Three a better evening of weather was enjoyed by bowlers as Port St Mary B hit top spot on 95 points as they came away from Finch Hill B with a 2-8 win.
Noble’s D sit in third place on 88 points following their 8-2 home win over Peel D, whilst Noble’s C continue to tick along nicely as they beat Port Erin B 3-7 at Breagle Glen.
Douglas C & D faced off at the Villa with the higher ranked team winning 8-2. Marown D had a positive result away to Ballaugh C with the visitors coming away with a 2-8 victory.
Ballaugh B sit joint top on 95 points as they beat South Ramsey D 7-3 at home on Thursday evening in their fixture which was due to be played on Monday, as this fell victim to the weather.
South Ramsey take Highest score of night in Ladies Open Age League
On an extremely wet night Peel Sunset hosted South Ramsey 100 V 181 (1-8) with Joyce Kelly taking the homesides only win 21-13.
Mooragh Park fought hard against the visitors Nobles 123 V 156 (3-6) with the McMullan sisters Madison and Bailey both winning by single figures.
Marown A welcomed Castletown B 174 V 97 (8-1) Linda Dawson took the only win for Castletown 21-6.
Marowns B team ventured to Ballagh, Where the strong Ballagh side took the game 166 V 128 (5-4)
Port Erin played Port St Mary 132 V 168 (4-5) 4 of Port St Mary wins were to single figures with Trish Bull taking the 5th 21-19.
Castletown A 178 V 108 Douglas (7-2) The Douglas side will be happy taking 2 games off the Southside on their home green. Jane Lothian 21-14 and Graiagh Smith 21-17.
Maximum points for Nobles Over 60’s
Nobles hosted Mooragh Park B and happily took maximum points 126 V 40 (6-0) Mooraghs Chris Simms came the closest to taking a game, just losing out to 17.
Finch Hill also took maximum points against Castletown B 126 V 60 (6-0) with Jan Osborne, Brenda Williams and Mary O’Conner all winning by single figures.
Results: Port Erin B 121 V 92 Castletown B (5-1), South Ramsey 120 V 80 Onchan A (4-2), Finch Hill 122 V 92 Ballagh (5-1), Douglas A 82 V 121 Marown (3-3), Castletown A 110 V 86 Port St Mary A (4-2).
Glenn Holds his Nerve to take Douglas Open Win

Photo: Arnie WithersOn Sunday the Douglas Bowling Club Men’s Singles took place on a tricky Green at the Villa and provided all those who took part with a testing but entertaining afternoon.
At the Quarter Final stage we saw Glynn Hargraves (South Ramsey) lose 9-21 to Tom Kelly (Marown), James Teare (South Ramsey) lose 14-21 to clubmate Bob Clark and Paul Dunn (Marown) lose 7-21 to his clubmate Glenn Boland. In the remaining match at this stage we saw two home greeners with Merv Sayle beating Keith Rise 21-20.
In the semi-finals we saw two titanic battles with Tom Kelly beating Bob Clark 21-18 and Glenn Boland beating Merv Sayle 21-20.
So to the final in which we saw Glenn Boland leading 13-11 after 11 ends and then by 16 ends Tom Kelly had fought back to take a 16-14 lead and four ends later Tom led 20-17. Glenn however kept his nerve and played some great bowls over the next four ends to take the win 21-20.
The prizes were presented by Andy Cannell the Competition Secretary of Douglas Bowling Club.
Bradford Wins Ramsey Town Cup

Photo: Arnie WithersThere were 47 entries for the Ramsey Town Cup held at Mooragh Park hosted by North Ramsey Bowling Club on Saturday. The club have recently received a grant for a new verticutter, which they hope will carry on the good work undertaken by the club since they took over the maintenance of the green in 2020.
In the quarter finals South Ramsey’s David Bradford ended the challenge of home greener Brian Colquitt with a 21-16 win, whilst Marown man Colin Kelly beat Eddie Carlyle (South Ramsey) 21-12. Another Marown player Tom Kelly came through a tough match with Paul Allison (North Ramsey) as he won 21-18, whilst Rob Monk (North Ramsey) beat Paul Quirk (Peel) 21-14.
In the first semi-final between David Bradford and Colin Kelly, with the latter being the current holder it was the end of the road for Kelly as Bradford eased into the final with a 21-11 win. The second semi-final saw Tom Kelly also cruise into the final as he ended the hopes of a home win for Monk with a 21-12 victory.
In the final Kelly with both players starting off six, it was Bradford who took firm control playing a long length to take a 15-6 lead after seven ends, with Kelly in danger of not scoring, however a double on the next end kicked off a remarkable comeback.
Kelly went on to play from corner to crown and back, with Bradford struggling to get back in, even when he did get back in Kelly would immediate recover the jack the following end.
Over the following 15 ends Kelly scored 14 points to Bradford’s four points, which put Kelly in the lead at 20-19 . On the 23rd end Kelly played up to the middle of the green, only for Bradford to capitalise on a loose lead from his opponent, with Kelly leaving his second bowl short Bradford changed his peg to ensure he stayed clear of the short bowl to make two for game and claim a 21-20 win in an entertaining final, which both players performed well in. This was Bradford’s fifth singles win of the season.
The presentation was made by Mike Skelly who thanked the competition sponsors Corkhill & Callow Ltd for supporting the competition. Tim Pressley was then introduced to present the prizes.
Finch Hill A Continue Charge in Division Two

Photo: Arnie WithersIn Canada Life International league Division One matches were played on Friday evening in glorious sunshine after heavy rain on Thursday evening.
In Division One, Marown A will have been pleased to come away from their game with Peel A with a 1-9 victory, as both teams were missing key players the Crosby men took full advantage. Preventing the whitewash for Peel was Gary Smith who beat Andy Kennish 21-12, whilst Pip Pemberton came closest to picking up a second point for the home team as he lost out 18-21 to Paul Kelly. Two of Marown’s regular C Team players Tom Kelly and Sam Clague stepped up to the A team with both men winning to single figures.
South Ramsey A stretched their lead at the top to six points as they came away from their game away to Marown B with a 0-10 win. All wins for the visitors were comfortable in double figures, with Karl Parker the highest scorer for the Crosby men as he lost 16-21 to Jordan Cain.
Rounding off the Marown teams their C team made the journey North as they travelled to Mooragh Park to take on North Ramsey A. It wasn’t a good night for the visitors as the home team won 9-1, with Peter Kelly the lone winner as he beat Ray Beattie 21-11, with Steven Rough and Stevie Rundle both losing out 19-21 to Allan Callow and Gary Merrill respectively.
Port St Mary A hosted Douglas A at Breagle Glen, with the Villa men coming away with a 3-7 victory. For the visitors Keith Rise beat Tim Williams 21-4, whilst Andy Cannell won 21-9 against Tom Collins. Closer wins were picked up by Ian Moore, who beat Paul Skelly 21-17, Shaun Seal won 21-18 against Bernard Thackrah, whilst Gary Conwell edged his game 21-19 against Dan McCabe. For the home team Wayne Roberts, Trevor Quayle and Robbie Cooil all won comfortably.
Onchan A came away from their game with South Ramsey B with a comfortable 1-9 victory, just missing out on a 0-10 win by a solitary chalk as Eddie Carlyle beat Will Penhallurick 21-20. Winning close games for the visitors were Reg Temporaza who recovered from a 4-13 deficit to beat Tony Dugdale 21-19, whilst Neil Dunwell won to the same score against Ben Dugdale with the latter fighting back from a 10-2 deficit before losing out.
Castletown A had a better week as they won 8-2 at home to fellow strugglers Peel B, to drag themselves closer to the teams above them. Home captain Jordan Drewett beat Dougie Allan 21-19, with Nathan Hamilton also winning to the same score against Alan Cromwell. Winning to 21-17 were Dave Quayle as he beat Andy Mackie, whilst Nathan Cooil beat Peel captain Paul Quirk to the same score. For Peel Dave Smith beat Ian Watson 21-18, whilst Tony Carroon beat Aaron Richardson 21-16 to pick up their second win of the night.
In Division Two Finch Hill A continue their charge towards a long awaited return to Division One as they came away from Mooragh Park with a 1-9 win over North Ramsey B. Tony Smart was the lone winner for the home team as he beat Stephen Oates 21-17, whilst John Corteen just missed out 20-21 to Tony Epifani. For the visitors Paul Dougherty was the best winner as he beat Adam Greenwood 21-9. The victory puts Finch 11 points ahead at the top.
Douglas B sit in second place on 82 points as they inflicted a damaging 9-1 home win over Port Erin A at the Villa. Six of the seven wins were comfortable for the home team, with Geoff Mayles scraping home 21-20 against Peter Hulley. For the Breagle men Bernie Durcan was the lone winner as he beat Paddy Murphy 21-5.
Castletown B are still in the mix also on 82 points as they won 4-6 away to Onchan C. Derek Lewney was the best winner for the visitors as he beat Roger Payne 21-7, with this win going a long way towards claiming the aggregate points (135-148). For the home team Ken Clarke was the best winner as he beat Ray Harris 21-12, whilst Neil Taylor edged home 21-20 against Ross Moore.
Ballaugh A won 7-3 at home to South Ramsey C, with the winners for the visitors David Corkill, Anthony Kelly and Paul Routledge all winning comfortably. For the home team Gordie Moore shown no mercy to his brother James Moore, as the former won 21-7, whilst Edgar Cowin beat Tony Marler 21-2.
Noble’s A sit comfortably in mid-table as they won 8-2 at home to Peel C. For the home team Alex Yates won 21-7 against David Allwood. For the visitors Jimmy Corlett had a perfect game scoring a single on the first end, then 10 consecutive two’s to win 21-0 against John Andrew.
Onchan B rounded off the Division Two fixtures as they beat Noble’s B 7-3. All three wins for the visitors were close with Michel Cooper beating Steve Parker 21-20, with Michael Johnson and Phil Salmon winning 21-19 against Sid McKnight and Paul Callister respectively.
In Division Three league leaders Ballaugh B came away from their visit to Breagle Glen with a 4-6 win over Port St Mary B, as Dicky Watson ensured the aggregate went to the visitors (128-143) with his 21-4 win over Michael Taylor. for the home team Junior Keggen beat John Kneen 21-17.
Noble’s D hosted Port Erin B, with the home team winning 7-3, as Sam Colquitt beat Trevor Barker 21-17, whilst Andrew Bell beat Nigel Haymes 21-7. it was great to see the visitors a full team as Alan Crebbin beat Alex Colquitt 21-10, Ben Mowle won 20-17 against Steve Colquitt, whilst Ken Horlsey just got the better of Kevin Moore 21-20.
High flying South Ramsey D were expected to get the better of newly formed Noble’s C, however the visitors got the better of the Ramsey men with a 3-7 victory, winning by just eight chalks to claim the aggregate two points (143-151). Winning for Noble’s Lee Price beat Mike Murley 21-17, Kevin Airey won 21-11 against Ryan Hargraves, captain Steve Cain edged home 21-20 against Chris Brown, whilst Dean Sowerby and Lee Greggor both won 21-16. For the home team Frank Feeney beat Paul Moore 21-8, whilst Geoff Collier and Peter Kennaugh won 21-19 against Nigel Hinds and Steve Brennan respectively.
Elsewhere Ballaugh C came away from Peel D with a comfortable 2-8 victory, Marown D got the better of Douglas D 7-3, whilst Finch Hill B came away from the Villa with the spoils as they beat Douglas C 3-7.
Canada Life International Mixed Team Championship
In Group A Marown A made the short trip to take on Douglas A at the Villa, as they came away with a 49 chalk victory (128-177), winning 2-7 on games. For the visitors Neil Withers beat Jan West 21-9, whilst Paul Dunn won 21-8 against Merv Sayle, whilst Clare Cooper just beat Andy Cannell 21-20. For the home team both wins were to a 21-15 score line as Keith Rise beat Lyn Bolton, whilst Gary Conwell beat fellow left hander Glenn Boland.
In the other match in Group A Ballaugh A this also ended up being a win for North Ramsey A as they also won by 49 chalks (178-129) and matched Marown’s 7-2 score line as they beat Ballaugh A at Mooragh Park. For Ballaugh Fred Waggett held off Adrian Skinner to win 21-20, whilst Patrick Grant beat Maureen Hamilton 21-11. Winning to single figures for the home team were Madison McMullan who beat Michele Cubbon 21-4, whilst Robert Monk won 21-6 against Nigel Tebay.
In Group B Noble’s A came away from the Sunset City with a 61 chalk win over Peel (115-176). All seven wins for the visitors were comfortable, with Grahem Moore the best winner to single figures. For the home team Joyce Kelly beat Jo Corkill 2116, whilst the evergreen Dougie Allan won 21-13 against Dave Naughton.
South Ramsey A were the best winners and highest scores on the night as they won by 72 chalks over Port St Mary (180-108) as Gill Dixon, James Teare and Glynn Hargraves all won to single figures. For the visitors Trevor Quayle prevented the whitewash with his 21-12 win over Peter Collister.
Canada Life International Mixed Team Plate
In the Plate competition in Group A Noble’s B took on Marown B at Crosby with the visitors winning by 93 chalks (94-187) as they won 1-8 on games. James Kelly was the lone winner for Marown as he beat Joanne Kelly 21-19, with Lisa Pugh the next highest scorer for Marown losing out 19-21 to John Andrew. For Noble’s five players won to single figures, whilst Lee Price who started playing league bowls this season continues to impress as he beat Charlotte Clarke 21-15.
Finch Hill hosted North Ramsey B, with the home team winning by 59 chalks (166-107). Winning to single figures for the home team were Dave McCabe, Stephen Oates and Tony Epifani. For the visitors Steve Parker won to single figures, whilst Ray Beattie beat Mary O’Connor 21-16.
In Group B with just three teams in the group Douglas B took their turn to sit out as Port Erin hosted South Ramsey B at Breagle Glen. The home team won by 58 chalks (187-129) as the visitors won just one game as James Moore beat Jean Thackrah 21-19, with Eddie Carlyle losing out 19-21 to Derek Allen. Lauren Groen and Geoff Collier scored 17 against Alan Crebbin and Voirrey Curphey respectively. For Port Erin Bernie Durcan was the best winner as he beat Gillian Jopson 21-8.

Under 21’s Player of the Month: Ryan Hargraves – South Ramsey
Bob was in top form in June as he picked up his second open competition win of the season as he won the Ken Williamson Cup for a second time having previously won the competition in 2010 as a 17-year-old, he won it this year as a 30-year-old. Clark brushed aside all before him on the day, as he beat Glenn Boland, Kevin Quirk, Matthew Quirk, Peter Jones and Glynn Hargraves. For his club team South Ramsey Clark maintained a 100% record winning all four games, including a vital home win over Peter Jones in the Rayner Shield quarter finals.
Louise Tebay was the clear choice for the Ladies section this month winning the award for the first time, with the highlight of the month being a first singles open win having recently won a ladies doubles at Onchan, Louise went on to win the Ladies Ramsey Town Cup beating Sue Gawne in the final. Louise also reached the latter stages of the June Festival. In a display of dedication towards the sport taken up just over two years ago Louise has recently obtained her Level 1 coaching qualification.
Junior bowler Ryan is the third person to win the award for the first time this month as he picked up the under 21 title, having recently represented the Junior Island team in St. Helen’s the 15-year-old has kicked on this season with his league form seeing him win all four games played in June, to rise to third place in the Division Three night league individual merit.

Photo: Arnie WithersMarown hosted the ever popular Tynwald Day R & A Grimshaw Pairs Trophy on Bank Holiday Wednesday on a tricky green. 26 pairs took part and the competition was sponsored by Investasure Financial Services Ltd.
Losing out at the quarter final stage were Nathan Cooil (Castletown) and Dave ‘Barney’ Kelly (Peel) 20-21 to Onchan pair Kevin Quirk and Steve Parker, Mooragh men Paul Allison and Steven Waters were beaten 16-21 by home greeners Paul Kelly and Matthew Keggen. In the other half of the draw South Ramsey’s Glynn Hargraves and Stefan Kelly lost out 13-21 to Jordan Cain (South Ramsey) and Matthew Quirk (Onchan), whilst the Noble’s duo of Stephen Corkill and Phil Salmon lost out 11-21 to Marown men Colin Kelly and Juan Killip.
At the semi-final stage both winning pairs came through their games comfortably as Paul Kelly and Matthew Keggen won 21-10 against Quirk and Parker, whilst Cain and Quirk ended the challenge of Colin Kelly and Juan Killip 21-13 to reach the final.
In the Final Cain and Quirk kept up the good form they had shown throughout the day playing short and tricky marks, as they made a good start to lead 12-6 after six ends against the current holders Kelly and Keggen. The South Ramsey/Onchan duo never looked in danger of losing the game as they kept their opponents down to just six scoring ends conceding five singles and a double, as whilst they only won two ends more than their opponents they scored a pair of three’s, three doubles and three singles to run out with a convincing 21-11 win as the pair picked up the title for a third time.
At the conclusion of the competition the presentation was made by Brian Kelly, who thanked the sponsors for their support, everyone who had helped with the running of the competition and the Marown Ladies for the refreshments provided. Martin Corkish from Investasure Financial Services Ltd was then introduced to present the prizes.
Marown A chasing leaders with a win at South Ramsey
Marown A visited South Ramsey on wed 28th June. On paper this was always going to be a close game. But Marown didn’t let their supporters down who travelled up north, and secured the win South Ramsey 141 V 166 Marown A (4-5) Sisters Rebecca Teare and Debbie Leece both won by single figures 21-6 and 21-7.
Port St Mary 140 V 145 Peel Sunset (4-5) This game was very mixed with a couple of close 21-19 games. But with the Peel side winning 3 of the games to single figure they took the eventual win.
Top of the table leaders visited Marown B 107 V 187 Castletown A (8-1) With the absence of the B team captain Lil Smith, Castletown A took full advantage to keep their top of the table spot secured. Rosemary Winkle took the lone marown game 21-19.
Castletown B 124 V 175 Nobles (2-7) Angela Quayle (Castletown B) come close to taking a 3rd game for the B team narrowly losing 20-21.
Mooragh Park 145 V 135 Ballagh (5-4), Douglas 168 V 149 Port Erin (5-4)
Marown Over 60’s stretch their top of the table lead
Marown took a trip to Nobles on 27th June, and played their usual fine form. Take the games 5-1 and only drop 1 point. Jane Robinson secured Nobles’ only win 21-20. Nobles 68- 125 Marown.
In second spot on the table saw Castletown A 126 V 44 Onchan(6-0) . Castletown Played a perfect home green taking maximum points. Winning 4 of the games to single figures.
In current third and fourth place on the table saw South Ramsey take on Mooragh B team 126 v 40 (6-0) and winning to maximum points keeps them in reach of Mooragh A.
Mooragh A welcomed the strong Ballaugh team where Ballagh took the games 2-4. Janet Monk (Mooragh Park) and teammate Janice Pilling both won by single figures. This gave Mooragh Park A the win 105 v 93
Port Erin A 113 v 101 Port St Mary A(3-3, Douglas A v Port Erin B (4-2)
No maximum points on the second games of the week. Castletown B hosted Douglas A with Sheila Preston Taking Castletowns only win 21-2. Castletown B 73 V 107 Douglas B (1-5).
It was the Mooragh Park derby with the B team hosting. Mary Bruce (Mooragh Park B) took a 21-11 win. But with the A team on top form and Janice Pilling securing a 21-0 win, the final score went to the A team. Mooragh Park B 52 V 116 Mooragh Park A (1-5).
Ballaugh 101 V 92 Nobles (3-3), Marown 121 V 52 Finch Hill (5-1), Peel Sunset 76 V 105 South Ramsey (3-3), Port Erin A 87 V 121 Castletown A (2-4).
On Friday 30th Mooragh Park A 97 V 79 Peel Sunset (4-2) Not many points were achieved in this game. For the Park side again Janet Monk and Janice Pilling won to single points. As did Sue Jones and Joyce Kelly for Peel Sunset.
