Angels march on

Well this was another week of Winter League Bowls disrupted due to the lovely weather.

The usual Round Robin on Wednesday was cancelled, and likewise the games scheduled for Saturday the 4th of December, these games will be rearranged for a date in the new year. Luckily a break in the weather meant the games could and did go ahead on Sunday.

Four teams took to the green on Sunday, Castletown Cannons, Outsiders, All But and Louie’s Angels.

All But took on Cannons and came away winning the game, All But took five out of the six games. The highest scoring game was won by Eddie Carlyle who held Joy Stephens to eighteen. George Peach the only winner for Cannons kept Celia Joughin to 16 points.

Outsiders took on Angels and took two out of the four games. The winners being the doubles Elaine Moore and Tony Dugdale who held Margie Tasker and Tricia Bull to 12 points. Whilst Fiona Kennish took the win from Matthew Keggan by a single point. There were a few close scoring games Trevor Quayle keeping Kevin Firth to 19 points and Rebecca Teare holding Jenny Moore to eighteen.

The Angels played All But winning five out of the six games played. Eddie Carlyle again being a winner for All But who held Margie Tasker to 20 points. The closest scoring game for the Angels was won by Trevor Quayle who kept Willie Corkill to 18.

The final match was Cannons against Outsiders. George Peach was again the only winner for the Cannons this time playing Tony Dugdale who scored 12 points.

All But 7 (121) Castletown Cannons 1 (88), Outsiders 2 (105) Louie’s Angels 6 (116), Louie’s Angels 7 (125) All But 1 (91), Castletown Cannons 1 (78) Outsiders 7 (117).

The games that were postponed on October 31 will be played this Saturday, 11th of December, and there will be a round robin held on Sunday.

Also another reminder that the J&M Lee charity doubles will be held on the weekend of the 18th and 19th of December. Entries for this doubles competition will close on Wednesday 15th of December.

Seven Up find some form

Well we are at week eight of the Outdoor Winter League fixtures which is sponsored by Pronto Plumbing; it all started on Wednesday the 24th of November with the afternoon Round Robin. This week saw 16 participants, who all played in doubles as one group.

The victors were Trish Bull and Sue McCourt who beat four other couples by four points. The four pairs that were held to 30 points were Derek Allen/Sylvia Kennaugh, Steve Parker/Pat Rigby, Sue Kerruish/Margie Tasker and Billy Blair/Alan Phair.

Unfortunately Saturday’s Round Robin did not go ahead due to the weather conditions.

Sunday the 28th of November saw three teams take to the green, Seven Up, Castletown Corkers and Nobles Nutters. Seven Up took five wins in their first match against Castletown Corkers, and the game that the Corkers won was by Grace Gawne who held Dougie Allan to 18.

Nobles Nutters also took five wins from the Corkers, but none of the games were really close scoring although the Corkers did get double points in all but one game. Another Gawne this time Lily took victory for the Corkers who held Mark Bradshaw to twelve.

The Nutters then took on Seven Up and unfortunately did not manage a win, Seven Up scoring the maximum 126 chalks available and securing maximum points. The closest scoring game was that won by Kevin Quirk, who didn’t let Juan Qualtrough score more than 18.

Seven Up 7 (123) Castletown Corkers 1 (73), Castletown Corkers 1 (70) Nobles Nutters 7 (117), Nobles Nutters 0 (73) Seven Up 8 (126).

Also just to let all members know that entries are being taken for the J&M Lee charity drawn doubles that is being held on the weekend on the 18th of December.
